Episode 27 - Made to stick

Use visual imagery to share your ideas

🌉 Ever feel like your brilliant ideas get lost in translation?

🤔 The "Curse of Knowledge" can leave us speaking in jargon while our audience stares blankly. But there’s a powerful tool you can use: METAPHORS! 🧠✨

In their book, Made to Stick, Chip and Dan Heath explain how concrete ideas resonate more than abstract concepts. By using metaphors, you can build a mental bridge that makes your thoughts clear and relatable. 🔑

Here’s how it works:

1. Instead of saying "cross-functional collaboration," try, “We’re all musicians coming together to play in one orchestra!”

2. Frame feedback like a puzzle and invite collaboration: “We might be trying to fit a square peg into a round hole; let’s find the right shape together.”

3. For convincing proposals, create a vision: “Think of our competitors fishing in a crowded pond. My idea is about building a new boat that leads us to uncharted waters.”

Let’s make our communication effective and memorable! What metaphors have you found useful in your conversations? 💬
